The Internet. Network of things?
Let’s look at Wikipedia … “The Internet of Things (IoT) is the concept of a computing network of physical objects (“ things ”) equipped with built-in technologies for interacting with each other or with the external environment, considering the organization of such networks as a phenomenon that can rebuild economic and social processes, eliminating the need for human participation from part of actions and operations. ”
Confused, right? I will try to clarify everything in my own words. People’s Internet We humans, especially over the past 7–8 years, are used to the Internet. The Internet in a person’s life has clearly become more significant than a personal car, than writing in an envelope, than work, than having connections in a society, than a familiar doctor, than enjoying outdoor walks, sometimes than a loved one, etc., a list can go on.
Thanks to him, you can suddenly become incredibly popular without investing money. You can become fabulously rich, again without any special financial investments. On the Internet you can trample a person, humiliate him and throw him in the trash of society. This is what the Internet means to us, to people. And all this is done on the Internet by the man himself. “Internet of people” – this is the concept that combines everything that is written in the two paragraphs above. The Internet of Things But for a long time not only people are connected through the Internet.
On the Internet, they communicate and give each other commands to things, inanimate objects. Few people know about this. The scale of this current, this wave, we still cannot imagine. By the way, the first person to connect the thing to the Internet was John Romky in 1990. He connected his toaster to the Internet. More than 20 years have passed since then. The wave of the Internet of things has become an avalanche. Roughly in 2008-2009, the number of things connected to the Internet exceeded the number of people using it.
You still do not understand what kind of things are connected to the Internet and communicating with each other? Here they are: – servers and remote workstations of various companies, both large and large; – ATMs; – sensors on the trading shelves, which inform work programs that the goods are ending, and automatically send an order for its delivery; – security systems…
This is a very small list of those things that, communicating with each other via the Internet, make decisions without human intervention, acting on programmed algorithms. What to expect from the Internet of things in the future? The Internet in human life, in terms of communication between things and objects, is waiting for rapid development. It is assumed that things and objects, communicating with each other on the Internet, will penetrate even more into business, into social issues, into process management and by us people. Once waking up, we suddenly realize that without their active participation in our lives we can not live a second.
This feeling will be akin to the experience of a modern person who came to work and realized that he had forgotten his mobile phone at home. After all, without mobile communications, nowhere! The Internet of things will be a pie consisting of four layers. Such an opinion was expressed by Rob Van Krannenburg: – Level No. 1 is associated with the identification of each object; – Level 2 will provide a service for servicing the needs of people (for example, the “smart home” system, which itself decides to turn on heating, order food in a nearby supermarket, open / close the gate of the house, depending on which car is to them pulled up …); – level 3 will be the collection, processing of information, the organization of processes, the management of us, people, based on the information received (for example, the automatic organization of traffic in a big city depending on the time of day and the situation on the roads) – something like “Smart city”; –
Level 4 – all the same, only at the level of states and the planet as a whole – “smart planet”. Thus, the Internet of things can be represented as a network of all networks in which small networks (a network of objects, things connected to the Internet at the level of a residential building) are combined into giant networks. And this entire network of networks itself makes decisions, depending on the algorithms developed by man. Problems on the way of society networking. This entire network of devices, sensors, sensors should communicate with each other in one language, which is not yet available. The second problem is the lack of developed common standards by which one could start to launch and integrate separate small networks. But I am sure that with modern technologies and computers in service this will not take long.
